3 Baskets Full

A tasket, a tasket , A little yellow basket...

I wasn't sure if my squares looked like flowers so I asked my partner what he thought they were.

" Little squares of fabric from the quilt shop!" he answered.

I figure the only 2 things I really enjoy shopping for are flowers and fabric so I don't mind which they represent.

Little Red Riding Hood has left her basket on the table.

Toffee Apple Polka Fun!

What fun!! But for today I'm done. I'll be back again another day, with show and tell from basket play.

Cheerio,
Rachael.

A beginning

So far, my baskets had come out pretty subdued, but it seems that these fabrics are the one's I hit first. I will skip the handles and put something in the baskets. Need more play time to know where I am going.

16 blocks done. I forgot one handle, but I'm not going to worry about it. I'll get the blocks together soon, I hope!

A Little Amish Looking

Okay I started yet another project. I will say this was a lot of fun and I want to make more! I used all hand dyed because I have a lot of scraps laying around and I seem to be wanting to work with them right now. It is not going to be all blue and green, this one just happened to work out that way.

Quilt for Meera

I did not mean to copy you .. I mean it..

It's just that the fabrics in the backgrounds are seersucker and I wasn't sure if they would hold well..

And your quilt is so pretty..

I looked for the large floral.....and since it was a gift for a baby girl,

I thought the floral fabric would be just right..

This fabrics was perfect.

Baby's room is green and orange with Shasta daises on the wall

 Now I am STUCK....

I think the border was a great idea!

K says it does not look like a quilt for baby. Anything mild I choose for the back is not going to cut it.

Whatever I come up with.. is too loud and busy for a baby..

I have not made many soft pastel baby quilts.

I don't know how to!

Tell me what to do. Anybody?

I am sorry, it looks like I copied you.. I did not mean to..

I just thought I would have an out in open conversation with Nifty.. If you didn't already know that!

I know, she wouldn't mind.

Can't stop!

I didn't think I was going to participate, but the other day when I saw Sujata's post it hit me that I have all these scrap blocks already made. It was so easy to create the baskets. I grabbed handful of greens and got to work. What fun! I had done similar baskets in a workshop with Freddy and Gwen earlier this year, so the handles are done in that method. They are made with a 1/2" bias tape maker and machine sewed down both sides of the handle. This is intended as a charity quilt, so I wasn't as careful as I would be for a quilt for me. I didn't even change the thread color from what I already had. It looks great though. The only thing I would do differently is to try a wider bias tape maker. I'm pretty sure I have a 3/4" or 1" wide tape maker, but darned if I can find it. This will have to do for now!

four

Well.
I now have four baskets, but they're awfully drab.
I need to fill them up!
What should I fill them with?
What colors should I use?
Hmmm........
Then I'll have to figure out how to border them!!....
Are we having fun yet?
yes.

Scrap Baskets

Here's a basket quilt I made last year, using a similar method taught by Gwen Marston. These handles are strips cut on the bias and steamed into shape, then top-stitched. The whole thing measures about 42" square.

Why not?

Yesterday was crazy!
Tons of little and big kids stopped by..
We actually finished most of our candies.. always a good thing!

I did not sew a stitch over the weekend. Lots to do around the house.
Took my daughter shopping for some fall cloths and it was a successful trip.
We even made it to a furniture store. Did not find the perfect dining table but, now I can say I tried!!!
NO more running to the mall and that give me time to sew!

Over all it was a crazy weekend!
Well, that got me dreaming of Monday and more baskets..
And I woke up this morning thinking, why not go crazy all the way?
Wait, that was the last night's thought but I had to wait to experiment till this morning.
So here is what I finally decided to do with my background for the basket..

The crazy background.. of course! I just made two more blocks but could not wait to show them to you all.
What do you think? I have used seersucker. I am not sure how it is going to hold. May switch the background to shirtings. I do have a lot of that.. old shirts from goodwill and some from my husband's closet..
He does not know that..
Shhhhh....
