Quiltdivajulie here . . .
and photos from my first (and only so far) basket quilt ~
Sing the Sun Down
(2009).
My quilt was inspired by the collaborative work of
Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran.
I made strips sets, cut the basket triangles, and
used the leftover strip set ends to cut handles
which were machine appliqued in place.
The fabrics used for the 16 unique handle starbursts
were also used for the piano key border.
And that backing ... oh, how I love that fabric!
Each of these photos should enlarge when double-clicked
(any maybe again if you click once more).
[Sing the Sun Down was quilted by Chris Ballard]
Scrappy, multi-directional quilts are my favorites
and one day soon I will begin making colorful scrap-fabric
for a new basket full of scraps quilt . . .
(if only I didn't have to go to work!)

ReplyDeleteOh, I just love your quilt - it's a four block-four block!
ReplyDeleteThis is one beautiful quilt! Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThat's fabulous! Another winner Julie!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful...I like the way my eye sees the handles as a pattern and then the baskets, etc. back and forth. The colors are so good and intricately worked out.
ReplyDeleteStunning quilt, really beautiful work.
